In varying degrees, we are all creative, but, sadly, many of us do not recognize our potential to create something new from that mysterious source that springs from deep within us. Too often, we do not permit ourselves to create in our very own way, but instead, copy what others have done ? or what we, ourselves, have done successfully in the past. We copy our own act instead of upping our own ante. This is even true of experienced creators, who, at times, disregard that barely verbalized thought or feeling ? that glimpse of possibility ? that enters their minds unbidden. They disregard the potential in the unexpected, because, they?ve been told at some point in their lives, that significance comes only from hard work, book learning, traditional sources, the approval of authority, or, commercial success.
It is important to listen to your instincts or hunches and follow them. Possibilities
abound for most of us ? if we are open to them. A glimpse of possibility, whether it
suddenly appears in a fleeting image, in verse, melody, or in vague, hard-to-decipher feelings, can be regarded as a potentially valuable gift. It?s okay to give credence to your automatic response to a stimulus that has not been influenced by logic, because a vague idea in the beginning can actually be a good idea ? one to be trusted and acted upon ? one that can excite you to enter new creative worlds. Give unexpected ideas a chance.
In my previous book, HAVE YOU EVER HAD A HUNCH? The Importance of Creative
Thinking, I explored the creative process and examined obstacles that stood in the way
of people and their creative potential. In my latest book, THE WORLD OF GLIMPSE,
I explore the theme of creativity once again because it is a favorite of mine, but, this
time, I have originated an entirely new world ? a fantastical, make-believe and theatrical
world of lively characters, luminous color, vibrant landscapes, invented language and
wordplay. In fact, THE WORLD OF GLIMPSE has its own language and, therefore, it?s
own glossary, called The Glimpsary.
THE WORLD OF GLIMPSE began with a fleeting verse that popped into my
head seemingly from nowhere. It just came and, from it, I created a whole, new
fantastical world. I love fantasy because of its many possibilities, and because it is
both an unfettered extension of reality as well as an enjoyable diversion from it. Fantasy is
imaginative escape that makes sense. It allows us to explore the human condition in farcical and exaggerated forms. And in doing so ? and under the guise of humor ? we often get closer to truth.
THE WORLD OF GLIMPSE reflects our own world and, because of the freedom
allowed by fantasy and satire, I get the opportunity, without encumbrance, to examine
our own humanness, our joy in productivity as well as debilitating, inhibiting, negative
approaches to life, that is, creativity versus destructivity. The Glimpsible characters symbolize human ones. They have similar aspirations and foibles. They, too, engage in self-discovery and self-improvement. They are bent on perfecting their own perfectabilities.
The World of Glimpse is a state of being in which I feel right at home because,Glimpsible philosophy resonates with me. I, too, am a Glimpsible ? a Glimpsarian thinker ? a Possibilitiest: there are few limiting absolutes ? just many, many,? wonderful possibilities.
THE WORLD OF GLIMPSE does not belong to any particular category because I don?t like
categories. I feel they straight-jacket thinking and creativity, Therefore, I have given this
new world a very large category: ?ages 4 to 104 and more?. So, whatever your age, just
remember ?
